FAQ

Class Days and Times

· Class days are Mondays and Thursdays at 4.00 PM to 7.00 PM

· Class is available twice a week for ˝ hour per subject. Students are expected to

complete daily worksheets at home and at the Center.

· It is expected that students arrive early enough to allow time to complete their class work, at least 30 minutes prior to the end of class for one subject and 60 minutes for two subjects.

Junior Kumon students will be given particular slots for the subjects they are

enrolled in and they are expected to come during those hours only.

Center Routine

Kumon of Florence will be open on Mondays and Thursdays at 4.00 PM to 7.00 PM

for students offering the educational services with communication channels available all the time through a web site, e-mail and telephone. The operating schedule will change to accommodate the need as and when needed.

Every child in the Center will be offered individual attention to receive the direction, guidance, support, encouragement and care needed to propel them through the curriculum. We will seek regular and constant feedback from students and parents to check the effectiveness of the program and to make any amendments for performance improvement. The ultimate goal of Kumon Method is to develop good reading comprehension abilities and to make high school math easier. The students are expected to reach these ultimate goals by the time they finish the highest levels in each subject.

Absences

Please notify the Instructor about planned vacations or absences one week in advance

by completing the vacation absence form.

Class attendance is a vital part of the Kumon program.  Observing students at work

in class greatly assists in the planning process for that student.  We also prefer to

introduce new concepts in class so we may assist your child in reaching his/her

Kumon goals.  If a student is unable to attend class, please call the Center by 10:00

AM.  This will allow us time to make adjustments to the student’s plan and prepare

the work to be picked up.  Please be advised that after 2 consecutive absences, no

new homework will be assigned until the student comes to class and returns all

outstanding homework.  Only pre-arranged exceptions are allowed.

Emergency Closings

In case of extreme weather conditions, please call the Center to arrange for

homework pick-up.  If there is an emergency Center closing, there will be a message

on the Center answering machine.  We will follow the local school districts closing

for extreme conditions.

Parent Conferences/Communication

Conferences will be held as and when needed that will be communicated in advance.

Student progress graphs will be given on a quarterly basis and Level Completion

Reports will be given after each level is completed.

Class is a time for instruction of new concepts and observation of students.

Communication with parents is extremely important to us, but please plan to talk to

the Instructor outside of class times. Parents can leave their phone number and two

convenient times to call.  Sending an e-mail to the Instructor is also an option.

There is a communication box in the parent waiting room where parents can fill out a

form to provide comments or ask questions during class time.

Kumon at Home

When students do their Kumon at home, it is recommended that it is done at a

scheduled time and a specific work area each day.  It is beneficial if there are no

distractions so that the student may concentrate on their work.  Students should not

be expected to do more than one homework packet per day (i.e., skipping work on

some days, and doubling up on other days), as this may fatigue the student which can

result in poor performance and lack of motivation.

Home Grading

Kumon of Florence is strictly enforcing home–grading as it is critical for the success

of the program for the students. Parental involvement and support at home give

students immediate feedback on their work.

Students whose work is corrected at home:

· Do not make the same mistakes repeatedly over time.

· Proceed through the program more smoothly.

· Feel more supported at home and more positive about their Kumon studies.

· Receive immediate feedback on their homework during class.

Parents who home-grade:

· Know their child’s strengths and weakness and can address them in a supportive

· manner.

· See and encourage their child’s progress.

Home grading is covered in the enrollment interview and answer books are provided to the parents. If you encounter any problems while home grading please call the center.

Standard Completion Time (SCT)

All worksheets beyond the first couple of levels in our curriculum have a time

requirement (standard completion time).  Work can only be evaluated if time and

percentages are recorded properly.  Work will not be considered complete without

times and will therefore need to be reassigned.

Instructor/Student Driven Program

Although parent feedback about homework progress is welcome and helpful, the

final decision regarding homework, lesson planning, and progress is made by the

Instructor.

Year-Round Program

One of the benefits of the Kumon program is that it is a year-round program.  This

will enable students to practice a little bit each day and increase retention skills.

Tuition Payment and Late Policy

Tuition is $110 per subject each month.  The initial registration fee is $50 besides  a

$25 refundable material fee which will be credited to the last month tuition upon

giving one month notice. In addition there is a non-refundable $30 one-time material

fee for Junior Kumon students.

Tuition payment is due before the 1st of the month and is non-refundable.  If tuition

payment is not submitted by the 5th of the month, a late fee of $10/- will be assessed

and is to be added to the tuition due that month.
